Computer monitors, LCD and flat screens

LCD monitors and flat screen computer monitors.

Computer monitors prices went down a lot compared to a few years ago. When I bought my first 14 inch VGA monitor to use with my 286 cpu computer, I paid a fortune for it. You have to get a good monitor to have a decent display, it's what you will look at when you use your PC. If the display is not good, you will see it all the time.

Most display monitors are flat screens now and the 17 inch is now the smallest monitor you should buy. You can get a used one for under 100$ now because a new one will go for around 200$. The price went down a lot because manufacturing a lot of them lowered the production costs.

Most monitors are made from the same tube because there is not 20 different tube manufacturers. I saw 3 different models of monitor tube when fixing them. So what really changes is the shape of the case and electronic components used to make the display monitors.

Depending on the VGA adapter and the monitor specifications, you will have an excellent display if you can set a high refresh rate for it. The refresh rate is the speed at which the display beam will turn on a pixel on the screen. The faster the refresh rate, the better the display will be. Depending on the resolution used for your display, some refresh rates may not be available.

Old monitors would have a refresh rate of 60hz and could exhibit some kind of fluctuations or flicker like most say. The flickering comes from the low refresh rate letting your eye see fluctuations on the monitor and this is mostly true when the room lights are neon.

The higher you set the resolution of your display, the lower the refresh rate available will be because there is more pixels to turn on one screen refresh pass. The Plug&Play vga cards and monitors will usually select the highest refresh rate available so you get the best display.

LCD monitors are getting cheaper and will eventually replace the tube monitors. They are now under 1000$ and will keep going down as more are manufactured. LCD displays are not as crisp as standard monitors and can sometimes be a bit foggy when looking at them on an angle.

LCD display monitors are much lighter and take much less space on a desk than a standard monitor. This is one of the main reason people buy them, a bit like flat screen TV sets they take less room. Their quality is much better than before where a LCD screen could have 20 dead pixels and still be a good one.

Since you will stare at the monitor while using your PC computer, you should get a good quality one. Either a standard or a LCD display monitor depending on what you prefer and home much room you have on your desk.
