Computer mouse and keyboard

Computer mouse and keyboard.

The mouse and keyboard of a computer are important. If you fight with your mouse pointer or don't like the feel of your PC keyboard it may become very annoying. So you have to get a good one but fancy stuff is not better.

Older mouse used to have a ball that would send the motions to the computer through a serial port. They changed this to a PS2 port so it would free the serial ports for other slow devices. They also made USB mice to make it easier for people to connect it to the PC. The keyboard and mouse connectors being both PS2 was sometimes confusing and some could connect them in the wrong connector.

The mouse using a ball were getting dirty and had to be cleaned so they would give smooth motions. Even if you used a mouse pad, dust and other particles would stick to the rollers in the mouse and would eventually jam. They made IR or Infra Red mice to get rid of this problem.

An Infra Red uses a light to detect motions and will function on basically any surface. This eliminates the need of a mouse pad that is really annoying since it limits the space you have to more. Some mouse have 3 buttons but a 2 button mouse is usually good enough. Most will come with a wheel to scroll the display up and down without having to use the scroller bar of the window.

Some mice are wireless and will function with batteries to send the signal to your computer. This is fun but has a few down sides like the constant need to have spare batteries to replace them when the mouse stop functioning. So you have to constantly pay to keep your mouse going or need to purchase rechargeable batteries. I recommend to use the wire mice.

Keyboards use to have their own AT connector but was replaced by the PS2 smaller connectors on the new computers. They also have USB keyboards that will work just the same as the PS2 type. Some keyboards will have extra buttons to open your email application or the calculator for example.

Like the mouse, they have wireless keyboards that use batteries. Like the wireless mouse, you will need spare batteries so when it stops functioning you don't have to go out and buy batteries to use your PC.

Get an IR mouse and a decent keyboard, but I'd stay away from wireless devices because of the dead batteries problem that will obviously happen when you really need to work. A good IR mouse and keyboard with wires will not let you down.
